At Florida Hospital’s annual summit for Naegleria fowleri – commonly known as the “brain-eating amoeba” with a 97% fatality – survivor Sebastion DeLeon gave an update on his recovery. The 16-year-old is doing well and eager to get on with his life, he said on Friday from his South Florida home during a video call that was broadcast at the second annual Amoeba Summit at Florida Hospital. The second annual Amoeba Summit at Florida Hospital was started by Steve and Shelly Smeski, who lost their 11-year-old son, Jordan, to the same infection in 2014.
