The Fourth Annual Jordan Smelski Foundation Amoeba Awareness Beach Walk is held in memory of Jordan Smelski. Jordan passed away on July 2, 2014, at the age of 11, to primary amoebic Meningoencephalitis (PAM). Jordan contracted the amoeba Naegleria fowleri from swimming in a hot spring filled swimming pool with a slide, while on vacation in Costa Rica. PAM is 98% fatal, yet 100% preventable.
All proceeds will go toward research, training videos and amoeba awareness.
